Published in 1939, it's still considered one of the best novels about Hollywood ever written: "Nothing could hurt her. She was like a cork. No matter how rough the sea got, she would go dancing over the same waves that sank iron ships and tore away piers of reinforced concrete. He pictured her riding a tremendous sea. Wave after wave reared its ton on ton of solid water and crashed down only to have her spin gaily away. "When he arrived at Musso Frank's restaurant, he ordered a steak and a double Scotch. I told him I had photos of my family at that restaurant from 1970 and I promised him I would bring them in when I located them. So this past Thursday night I came in with my two sons to celebrate my best friend's birthday. We sat at the counter expecting Manny to be there. I had made a copy of the photos for him.
